I was today years old when I found out you can send a Substack email without writing a post first…. I had no idea….
So…. a BIG thank you to Jerry Kezka for bringing this to my attention…
If you are like me, you probably created a Substack account, started messing around inside the platform, wrote a few posts and then, hoped and wished and prayed to be successful.
Fact is, most of us on Substack (myself included) are barely scratching the surface of what this platform can do. We’re like kids with a treasure map, only using half the clues.
This morning I had one of those “Are you freaking kidding me?” moments when I discovered this hidden gem: you can send targeted emails to specific subscribers without publishing a post!

1. Find Your People
Open your dashboard
Click “Subscribers” (it’s hanging out in the left menu)
Hit that “Filter” button
Choose who you want to talk to (free subscribers, paid subscribers, your call!)
2. Make Your Move
Select ALL your beautiful subscribers
Click that email button
Pour your heart out
(Pro tip: Substack only grabs 50 subscribers at first - be sure to click that number on the right to include everyone in your love letter!)
And, you know, don’t spam them….
